Why Write?

Literature Blogs

There are two reasons to write: 1) for yourself; or 2) for others.

If you write for yourself, it could be as simple as needing to get words down. Of course, there might sneak in the hope of fame (recognition) or wealth (money), too. If you write for others, it could be for the pleasure of entertaining, or for recording history, or making connections. Why you write may be a weaving of all the above.

  1. I write because I like to. Definitely not for money. I don’t think there’s that much there for many of us. I’m glad for my job that gives me the freedom to write and not worry about the money.

Do you want your blog listed on the SCBWI website? If so, e-mail the site, how often you blog and what you blog about so I can add it to the list I’m developing.

  2. When I was young, I wrote because I loved to read and it seemed as exciting to pen my own stories as to read others. Over the years writing has become therapy, stress relief and a full time job. I write to stay connected to myself and to others and, for that reason, I am happy that I found your blog. I too am a Michigan writer, my blog is http://writinginmichigan.blogspot.com/ and I would love to add a link to your site. It’s nice to connect to other writer’s locally and I’ve been working on it for a while now – like writing it’s a slow and challenging process.

  3. @Natilie — Thanks for the heads up — must add my link there!
@JR — interesting blog; you also should add SCBWI conferences (in MI), and the Calvin College ones in Grand Rapids, and … one in Holland, which I can’t remember. Traverse City also has a writers group. Those are just off the top of my head for now.

  5. Hi,

I like writing for myself and others. I have always been someone who was searching for the next best story, until I realised that I have a story to tell myself.

The whole writing process has been fine, long winded but fine. Sometimes I would spend whole days in front of my computer. But the problem I am having is that I dont have feedback from anyone.

Could you do me a huge favour and look at my blog, where I have the first 2 pages of my ever changing novel.

    Thanks

    x
