Wintery Birds

Literature Blogs

It’s been in the single digits all day; got about 8″ of snow last night.  Schools, etc. closed today. All day I’ve been watching the birds come and go from our feeder. I’d filled it yesterday before the snow came. More than half the seed is gone. It’s snowing now.Wondering if I want to wander into the tundra to refill it for the poor little things. It’s dusk. No birds fluttering around the feeder. Imagine they are hunkering down for the night. Suddenly I noticed that there were brown lumps in our red-bud tree in our backyard. About 15 morning doves are roosting with heads tucked under their wings there on the branches, branches which are waving up and down in the wintery blast.
